National Initiative for Creative Education (NICE) is a community-based organisation established in 2016, working across Hull, East Yorkshire and North Yorkshire.

Our work is rooted in lived experience and long-standing engagement with communities who often remain underrepresented or underserved.

We support individuals who experience isolation, low confidence, and barriers to taking part in community life, including cultural, language and structural challenges.

We recognise that for many people, accessing support or joining a group is not straightforward. It can feel unfamiliar, uncomfortable, or out of reach. NICE was created in response to this reality.

We design and deliver community-based programmes that provide accessible and culturally responsive ways for people to reconnect — with themselves, with others, and with the wider community around them.

Our Approach

Our work is based on a clear and consistent approach that prioritises:

Building trust through regular, reliable contact

Creating welcoming and culturally aware environments

Offering accessible entry points into group-based activities

Supporting gradual progression at a pace that feels manageable

Encouraging participation beyond initial engagement

I50A9138.jpg

This allows individuals to move forward in a way that is sustainable and meaningful, rather than short-term or dependent.

We do not take a one-size-fits-all approach. Many of the people we work with come from diverse cultural backgrounds, and our delivery reflects this through tailored communication, facilitation styles and group environments.

Participants often begin by attending quietly, observing and becoming familiar with the space.

This progression is not forced or standardised. It is supported through consistency, trust and shared experience.

Our role is not to do things for people, but to create the conditions where people begin to take ownership of their own participation and direction.

Impact & Outcomes

Through this approach, NICE supports measurable improvements in:
